Where Pearl Is Found
Natural pearls historically came from the Persian Gulf (Bahrain) and the Gulf of Mannar between India and Sri Lanka. Today most fine pearls are cultured — from Japan (Akoya), the South Pacific and Australia (South Sea), French Polynesia (Tahitian/black pearls), and China (freshwater, the largest volume producer worldwide).
