Peridot is one of the few gemstones formed not in the Earth's crust but in its upper mantle, brought to the surface by volcanic activity. Myanmar and Pakistan (Kashmir's Sapat Valley) produce the finest specimens, with Arizona (USA, on Apache land), China, and even certain meteorites also yielding gem-quality peridot.
